Pathology/Laboratory

This elective rotation can be a two (2) or four (4) week rotation.

The pathology/lab rotation provides students a variety of experience in the hospital lab setting and experience with autopsies with the local county medical examiner.

While in the lab, students will be exposed to the following: operate the computer lab system, special chemistry (hepatitis, thyroid, QC programs), general chemistry (automated work flow, Beckman CX3 and CX4, methodology and verification of chemistry results, COAG, UA?s, Blood Bank (type & screen, type & cross match, blood products), hematology (specimen collection, preparation and minor tests) and microbiology (overview of specimen collection, tests available, organism identification and MIC interpretation.

During time with the medical examiner, students will be offered theory and practical aspects of forensic and medical investigators in assisting with autopsies and criminal investigations.
