The August 2012 issue of Consumer Reports ranked McLaren Lapeer Region in the top 10 hospitals in Michigan for patient safety.
For the first time Consumer Reports rated hospitals for patient safety focusing on six categories; infections, readmissions, communication, CT scanning, complications and mortality. These ratings provide a unique way to compare hospitals and give important insights into the safety of hospitals in our community. The analysis includes information from government and independent sources on 1,159 hospitals in 44 states. The publication also interviewed patients, physicians, hospital administrators, and safety experts; reviewed medical literature; and looked at hospital inspections and investigations.
McLaren Lapeer Region was seventh in the state of Michigan in an overall rating, far ahead of other major health care systems in the state. The Medical Center ranked well above the state average on infections and CT scanning and above average for the other categories.
“We are very proud of the continued progress we have made in patient safety and this ranking by Consumer Reports validates our success,” said Bart Buxton, CEO & President, McLaren Lapeer Region. “We work very hard to insure that quality care and safety of our patients remains our number one priority.”
