McLaren
Bay Region was one of nineteen Michigan hospitals that were honored
for their tremendous success in achieving and sustaining national
goals for organ donation, including a donation rate of 75 percent or
more of eligible donors at their facilities. Hospitals across the
nation that achieve this goal receive bronze, silver or gold medals
of honor from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
McLaren
Bay Region and thirteen other Michigan hospitals received silver
medals for meeting the 75 percent conversion rate and one of the
following goals: having a rate of 3.75 organs transplanted per donor
or maintaining a 10 percent rate of organ recovery through an option
known as circulatory determination of death. Gift of Life Michigan is
one of 18 Organ Procurement Organizations that also received a silver
medal. In addition, five hospitals received bronze medals for meeting
the 75 percent conversion rate.
These
award-winning hospitals have worked closely with Gift of Life
Michigan and the MHA Keystone Center through the MHA Keystone: Gift
of Life collaborative.
